SmallSat Europe

26th-28th May, 2026 | RAI, Amsterdam

Join the Global Invacom team at Smallsat Europe. Our CTO, Bob Potter, has been selected to present a poster titled 'Developing infrastructure for a scalable, multi-orbit ground network' at the event.

Delivering a ground segment that not only facilitates the potential of newspace, but enhances it, will continue to drive its feasibility. Mega constellations deliver a few key challenges to the ground segment:

• Dynamic networks which require technologies which are capable of tracking, switching, and multi-orbit connectivity
• High numbers of terminals which demand efficient management of spectrum
• Scalability must be delivered through software-defined ground equipment

When developing antennas and RF solutions to match the demands of newspace, there are key technical considerations which determine the success of the equipment.

In this paper Bob will discuss the following:

• Technical considerations when designing a multi-orbit antenna.
• The role transceivers play in a multi-orbit environment, as opposed to discretes.
• The role of software-defined components in a multi-orbit environment.

This paper will be shaped by knowledge gained from our R&D process of our antennas paired with real-life use cases. It will inform the audience of the technical best practices when formulating a multi-orbit ground segment.
